At any anime convention cosplay is always at the top of the event list. Years in and now lots of convention organisors have worked extensively in translating old game shows into anime versions by mixing them with cosplay. Remember the old dating games from television past? Well, add a little anime role-playing with cosplay and thats an anime dating game.

History

Based off the dating game tv show which were usually for amusement value where a singel person (male or female) is placed behind a screen to ask questions to three guys or gals that are attempting to win a date with the person behind the screen. The contestants do not know who is behind the screen and vice versa giving a hightend sense of suspense to the game. The person behind the screen can only hear their answers and voices, but not see them. The audience could, of course, see them all. The various suitors were able to describe their rivals in uncomplimentary ways, which made the show work well as a general devolution of dignity and entertain spectators. Questions were oftten rigged to get ridiculous responses or to be obvious ways to sense the personality of the suitors.

In the anime dating game version the suitors are usually cosplayers and have to stay in character to win a date with the date behind the screen. Questions in an anime dating game are a lot more Japanese in nature wheter they be, anime, manga or Japanese culture related and otherwise the game is often related to the original dating game.
